Flight Training is Coming to Bad Axe
Nicholl Aviation is excited to announce plans to begin offering flight training at Huron County Memorial Airport in Bad Axe, Michigan!
For me, this opportunity is especially meaningful because Huron County Memorial Airport is where my own aviation journey began. I started my flight training there in 1999, experienced my first solo flight at the airport, and ultimately earned my Private Pilot Certificate there.
Coming back to Bad Axe to help others learn to fly feels a lot like coming home.
I'm excited to bring the experience I've gained as a flight instructor back to the Thumb and provide local students with an efficient, affordable, and professional path toward earning their pilot certificates.
Flight Training in Bad Axe
Our plans are currently being developed, but I anticipate flight training opportunities being available Saturdays and Wednesday afternoons, with additional details and scheduling information to follow.
Whether your goal is to fly recreationally, pursue a career in aviation, or simply experience the freedom that comes with becoming a pilot, we're excited to make flight training more accessible to people in Huron County and the surrounding communities.
Private Pilot Ground School
We're also bringing Private Pilot Ground School to Bad Axe!
October 3 – November 28
Saturday evenings | 5:00–8:30 PM
This course is designed to give aspiring pilots the knowledge they need to successfully prepare for their FAA written examination while building a strong foundation for their flight training.
A Great Opportunity for High School Students
This is also a tremendous opportunity for high school students who are planning to attend a college aviation program.
Many collegiate aviation programs require students to already hold a Private Pilot Certificate when they begin their professional flight training. Earning that certificate before starting college can put a student in a much stronger position to begin their aviation education and potentially save valuable time and money.
Instead of waiting until college to begin flight training, students can start right here in Bad Axe.

I'm incredibly excited about the opportunity to return to the airport where my own aviation journey began and help create the next generation of pilots from the Thumb.
